Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)

At Winona Area Public Schools, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to succeed in school and in life. That’s why we proudly offer AVID — Advancement Via Individual Determination — a nationally recognized college and career readiness program that helps students develop the skills, habits, and confidence they need to thrive.

AVID is offered through a dedicated AVID elective class at both our middle school and high school, where students receive targeted support in organization, study skills, goal setting, and academic writing — all while building a strong sense of community and purpose.

But AVID doesn’t stop there. Across Grades K-12, our teachers use AVID instructional strategies in every classroom to promote critical thinking, collaboration, and deeper learning. These research-based practices are woven into our instructional framework, helping all students build the skills they need to reach their goals — no matter where they start.

Whether your child dreams of college, a career, or something still unfolding, we are ready to help them get there — with the systems, staff, and support that make a difference.
